SNDT Women’s University’s dazzling success in sports and academics

SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, which has earned the reputation of being the first women’s university in the country, is carrying forward the bright legacy of education, culture and empowerment with its motto “Sanskrit Stree Parashakti”. With the idea that an educated, cultured and strong woman is the force for social transformation, the university has implemented remarkable activities in the last two years to develop leadership, confidence, health and sports excellence in the students.

For the overall development of the students, infrastructure facilities such as “Khelo Beti, Padho Beti” scholarship scheme, sports enhancement scheme, fitness and mass participation activities, construction of modern gyms at Churchgate, Juhu and Pune campuses, construction of 200 meters synthetic track under PM Usha project were developed. Also, an integrated study structure based on sports and life skills was implemented in the academic curriculum as per NEP. Through these initiatives, the university has built a beautiful bridge between education and sports and prepared its students to lead on the global stage.

Continuing this glorious tradition, Komal Milind Waghmare, a student of SNDT Women’s University, has been selected in the Indian team in the 10m Air Rifle – Individual and Mixed Team categories for the prestigious Tokyo Deaflympics 2025 (15th to 26th November 2025, Japan). Komal has consistently performed well under the guidance of Dronacharya Awardee Coach Suma Shirur. With the scholarship and training facilities of the university, she has achieved an excellent balance between education and international level preparation. She was honored with the “Maharshi Karve Khel Ratna Award 2025” for her success at the KSS National Championship in Delhi.

Komal Waghmare, who has secured a place among 111 Indian athletes, is a matter of pride not only for the university but also for the country. Komal expressed her gratitude for the invaluable guidance of Vice-Chancellor, Sports Director Dr. Kavita Kholgade, Dr. Nilesh Thackeray and Coach Suma Shirur in her successful journey.

The progress of the university’s academic and sports sectors is supported by the valuable guidance of Vice-Chancellor Ujjwala Chakradev, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ruby Ojha, Registrar Prof. Vilas Nandvedkar. As the players as well as the students are getting encouragement, the university is raising the bar of the performance of the players in the sports sector.
